Case study · Auto repair

699 leads in five months, and two thirds never called

KD Auto Repair works out of TBD. Between May and September, WhatConverts recorded 699 leads from 550 different people: 461 forms and 238 phone calls. In a trade where everyone expects the phone to ring, most of this demand arrived typed.

See the results Advertising spend is loaded for 3 May to 29 June only, while the leads run to September, so the one cost per lead below carries that window inside its own label.

KD Auto Repair

TBD, market to confirm. Google and Facebook both carry loaded advertising spend on this account, and the film above is ours. Calls and forms are both tracked in WhatConverts, which is why the counts on this page include the phone.

The landing page

Every ad points at one page

Nobody arrives here by accident. Google and Facebook both spend to put somebody in front of this page, which means everything after the click belongs to what is on the screen. In a trade where most people expect to ring, two thirds of this account's demand arrived typed instead.

The hero of the live KD landing page.
What the numbers say about it
  • 01 Four hundred and sixty one of the 699 leads arrived as forms rather than calls. An ad can only deliver somebody to a page, so a form is always the page's work and never the ad's
  • 02 Two hundred and thirty eight still picked up the phone, which is why the number stays visible rather than being traded away for a cleaner layout
  • 03 Google and Facebook both paid to send traffic here, so one page has to satisfy somebody searching for a repair and somebody who was only scrolling
  • 04 Five hundred and fifty different people out of 699 leads, so one in five had been here before and the page has to serve them rather than sell to them

No conversion rate is claimed here, because there is no session or click data for this page in front of me, only leads. Every figure above is from WhatConverts, May to September 2026, and the cost per lead in the results section covers 3 May to 29 June, which is the only window with spend loaded against it.

The results

Six hundred and ninety nine leads. Five hundred and fifty people.

Every figure below is from WhatConverts, which counts the calls as well as the forms. Where a number can be read two ways, both readings are on the page rather than only the better one.

Different people
699 leads in five months, from 550 people. One in five was somebody coming back, which on a repair account is not a bad thing.

Arrived as forms
238 came as phone calls. Two thirds of this account's demand types rather than rings, which is unusual in the trades.

The spend and the leads cover different windows

Advertising spend is loaded for 3 May to 29 June. The leads run from May to September. Dividing the whole spend by the whole lead count would give under nine dollars a lead, which is not true and is not a figure anybody here would defend, so the only cost per lead on this page is the one for the window the money was spent in. What July, August and September cost is not something this page can answer yet.

Every figure is from WhatConverts, May to September 2026, and September is still running. A lead is a tracked call or a form submission. Our own lead sheet holds 621 for the same period, 78 fewer, and that difference does not resolve into calls, forms or a month, so this page uses one source throughout and names it. Nothing here claims revenue, jobs booked or return on spend, and no growth is claimed from months whose spend is not loaded.
The work

Three services. Earned, paid and filmed.

Search that does not charge for the click, ads that do, and the films both of them run on. Point at one to see what it covers.

The results nobody is charged for

A ranking is not rented, so the click on the day somebody needs a mechanic costs nothing
The work compounds: what was done in May is still returning in September, which is the one thing advertising cannot do
Most of this work happens on pages rather than in an ad account, which is why the landing page and the search work are planned together
The tracking on this account groups Google traffic as a mix, so no figure on this page is credited to search work on its own
This section covers what they signed for. Every figure in the results section comes from WhatConverts for May to September 2026, and the only cost per lead on this page covers 3 May to 29 June, which is the one window with advertising spend loaded against it.
Why this works

It works because a car always comes back

Nobody chooses a repair shop for pleasure. They choose one when something has already gone wrong, they decide in an afternoon, and if it goes well they never shop for one again. The work has to win that afternoon and then be there the next time.
